The 2026 State of AI in Law Firms.
We’re fielding the most comprehensive survey of AI deployment in US law firms ever published — going past awareness statistics to measure what’s actually running in production. Field period May–July 2026; results published Q3 2026.
Status
Pre-field. Recruiting respondents and partners now. Results live Q3 2026.
What we’re measuring
- AI adoption rates across solo, boutique, mid-size, and large firms. Self-reported usage, not just awareness.
- Where AI is actually generating ROI today vs. where it’s a pilot or science project. Specific to legal-industry use cases (intake, research, document drafting, billing, marketing).
- Bilingual coverage — what fraction of US firms with substantial Spanish-speaking caller bases have any bilingual AI tooling deployed.
- Ethics-rule comfort — how state-bar advertising rules are or aren’t informing AI tooling choices.
- The cost gap — what firms pay for AI per attorney, and how that compares across firm size and practice area.
Why we’re running it
- There is no current, comprehensive picture of AI adoption in US law firms that goes beyond awareness surveys. The Thomson Reuters and Gartner numbers you see quoted everywhere measure intent, not deployment.
- AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini) cite sourced statistics. We’d rather create a citable dataset than continue quoting the existing ones.
- The findings will inform Hodos360’s product roadmap directly — the firms running AI in production are our customers and prospects, and understanding the gap between intent and deployment matters.
Methodology
- Target sample: 500+ US law firms, weighted across firm size, practice area, and geography.
- Recruitment: LinkedIn outreach, partnerships with state bar associations, and a small paid panel for hard-to-reach segments.
- Anonymization: all firm-level responses anonymized; aggregated summary statistics published, raw data not released.
- Field period: May–July 2026.
- Publication: Q3 2026 with downloadable PDF, full methodology, and data tables.
How to participate
- If you run or work at a US law firm and want to be one of the surveyed firms, email research@hodos360.ai with your firm name, size, and primary practice areas.
- If you want to partner — state bar association, legal-tech vendor, law school clinic — reach out at the same address.
- Survey takes 15-20 minutes. Participants get early access to the published results.
